Intrigued by the ancient Mimbres Culture? Love the Mimbres Valley?
If you are an aspiring or experienced poet interested in dipping into the archaeological, historical, and natural riches of the Mimbres Valley, join us for a morning where we drink in the experiences and stories of the Site. Gather to write lines inspired by the land, the history, and the artefacts of this unique site.
April poetry stroll at the Mimbres Culture Heritage Site
April 19, 2026
10:00-12:30
Free workshop to celebrate National Poetry Month, led by Heather Frankland, poet laureate of Silver City/Grant County, with Cheryl Howard and Cynthia McCain.
There will be coffee and tea, plus snacks. Join us for lunch at Oluv, Mimbres’ own cafe, or bring a lunch to eat on the grounds. Trails are wheelchair and stroller accessible. We hope you can RSVP so we can make room in the museum: mccaincynthia@msn.com. Dress for the weather–bring a hat and water. April in Grant County can be windy or hot.

Suggested voluntary donation of $3 to our generous hosts, the Mimbres Culture Heritage Site, Imogen F. Wilson Education Foundation.
Located near Mile Marker 4, one block east of Highway 35 at 12 Sage Drive in Mimbres, New Mexico.

What next?
I”m still writing with the Open Hands poetry group in Oregon, but also I’ve joined the Mimbres Poetry Circle. I’m dropping in some poems that I’ve written recently on the Poems tab.

I hope.
